Personal, Social and Humanities Education Key Learning Area

Subject Objectives:

The aim of the Personal, Social, and Humanities Education KLA is to help students understand themselves, the society, and the world, to maintain healthy personal development, and to become confident, knowledgeable, and responsible individuals who can contribute to the well-being of their families, communities, nation, and the world.

Expected Outcome:

Nurturing Social Competence

Our Humanities teachers tailor their teaching to students’ abilities and create a positive learning environment for students. Teaching activities are designed to develop students’ interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving skills, and social awareness through interaction and cooperation. Our Humanities teachers have been invited by EDB, universities, and professional teachers’ organisations to share their learning and teaching experiences with other schools. In addition, five of our teachers have received The Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence, which provides a solid foundation for the teaching and learning of humanities and student achievement.

Subject-based Integrated Development

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the Humanities Department implements innovative ideas and interdisciplinary curricula for effective teaching and learning in both formal and non-formal education. Our Humanities teachers have collaborated to promote different types of school-based curriculum design projects, Quality Education Fund projects, interdisciplinary curriculum collaborations, project-based learning, seed projects and junior secondary curriculum planning, and other pilot projects, totalling more than ten in number. The Humanities teachers have been actively building a collaborative school culture to achieve self-improvement.

Flexible Out-of-Classroom Learning

The learning activities promoted by Humanities focus on field trips and visits to make learning more interesting and flexible for students outside the classroom. For example, in the Study Blocks set up for Secondary 1 and 2, students are allowed to visit various museums and venues in person. In terms of overseas study trips, our KLA has also organised projects such as the “Korea History, Culture, Economy, and Technology Academic Exchange”, the “Korea History, Culture, Economy and Technology Academic Exchange Tour”, and the “Korea History, Culture, Economy and Technology Academic Exchange Tour”, QEF, and so forth. Such programmes diversify teaching and learning activities and effectively engage students in a variety of teaching and learning activities both inside and outside the classroom.
